Just a regular Joe who loves to fish and be in the outdoors. I grew up playing in the fields and creeks of my hometown. My pops loved to mushroom hunt and fish, and we spent many hours of my childhood scouring the woods in the fall for puffballs, oak leaf, and frosties, along with gathering the occasional pawpaw and persimmons. I didn't care much to eat that stuff, but it was fun being in the woods gathering shrooms and discovering. My oldest brother had a love of foraging as well. We would go find blackberries, pecans, walnuts and mushrooms.
I was always the kid in the neighborhood who drug the other kids out to play in the creeks, woods and pastures. I soon acquired the nickname "Boonie" which has stuck for 50 plus years. We would wade the creek, fashion fishing poles out of sticks and string, dug worms, crawdad fish with liver, and turn over rocks for crawdads. We caught small catfish and chubs and an occasional carp in the creek.
As I grew older I gravitated more towards fishing, as I loved eating fish, but didn't care much for mushrooms like my dad and oldest brother. That has changed in the last 20 years or so! I had a dear friend I started fishing with pretty regular back in the 90's who has since passed away. He liked to fish for bluegill, catfish, and crappie. We spent thousands of hours fishing, shooting the breeze and telling stories. He introduced me to fishing at Devil's Kitchen Lake in southern Illinois, which to this day is still one of my favorite places on the planet. He also introduced me to power plant fishing in the winter time.
In the early 2000's I purchased a boat of my own, and started fishing a lot of the same spots that my friend and I fished. Coffeen Lake, Carlyle, Vandalia, Devil's Kitchen, Highland, Greenville, and other small lakes. My friend and I had long talked about going to Reelfoot Lake, so the next year I decided to take that trip. I had no idea what I was getting into at the time. I bumped into another guy from Illinois at the boat ramp and he gave some tips. I spent a few hours on the water and caught 18 nice bluegill and 3 nice crappie. I was hooked!
My love of fishing has only grown from there, and I have been to Reelfoot Lake every year since then. I am constantly thinking about fishing, planning to go fishing, watching fishing videos, looking at fishing tackle, etc.
As I watch fishing videos I think to myself, I can do that! So it started, I bought a gopro and started a Youtube Channel! We are over 1000 subscribers and growing! We are upgrading equipment, and we will be hitting great new locations in 2024 like Lake Fork, Allatoona, Kentucky Lake, Mark Twain, Shelbyville, Truman, the border water lakes in Missouri/Arkansas, and much more!
Come join us for great adventures on the water as well as our travel adventures!
